Throw Mamma From the Train

Vintage: 1987

Genre: Dark Comedy

Rated: PG-13

Overall Awesomenss: 4/5
Synopsis: Billy Crystal (Larry) teaches a writing course where Danny DeVito (Owen) is his student. Wanting to gain favor with his teacher, Owen kills Larry's theiving ex-wife. Owen does this because he wants Larry to kill his mother. (It really does make sense in the context of the film) Things get tricky when both Owen and Larry have a LOT of trouble getting rid of Mamma.

Quality: 4/5 A really inventive plot with characters that were gold. The parallels between what Larry is teaching in his class and what are happening in his life are great examples of how well this film was written, and the acting is a testament to how well it was made.
Group Fun: 3/5 I made the mistake of walking out of this film to get food once or twice, and you do miss stuff if you're not paying attention. However, if you're stuck watching this with a bunch of people, Larry's one-liners and Mamma's uncouth language are more than enough to provide for a night of entertainment.
Single Fun: 4/5 The story is really interesting, to the point where you really don't know what's going to happen next, and you want to keep on watching. It's better when you're by yourself because the (amazing) plot is so intricate you don't want to get distracted by anything. This way, when it's over, it all makes sense.
Overall-Awesomeness: 4/5 Really grand film. Not just for the story, but it's probably the most entertaining performance I've seen out of either DeVito or Crystal.
